Photographic competitions, both national and international, exist all over the world. They were held in Russia as well, basically before revolution. Unfortunately, in the post-war years in Russia the photography disappeared from proscenium of the art process and the tradition photographic awards interrupted. Today the photography turns from Cinderella to Princess. The growing number of various national photographic premiums shows that a photo art in our country starts to get the same status, as in Europe and America.
In 2000 the Government of Moscow and the Moscow House of Photography founded Silver wreath, the annual premium for the best picture story about Moscow. The Silver wreath premium founded by the Moscow House of Photography at support of Kodak and Nikon companies, that is the regular award since 2001, will be awarded alternate years within the framework of the Moscow International festival Fashion and style in photography.
The aim of the Silver wreath competition is to promote the development of the Russian fashion and style photography, direction that has been developing promptly last years in Russia, as well as to popularize achievements of the best photographers working in this genre. We hope, that the Silver wreath premium becomes as habitual and popular among professionals and general public, as Nika, Tefi, Gold mask, Gold mannequin and other culture and art premiums.
Photoprojects of the Russian photographers presenting a series of four photos minimum (format A4) were accepted to participation in Silver wreath competition. Works for competition were presented by illustrated magazines, museums and galleries, as well as photographers themselves.
